waiv|er «WAY vuhr», noun.
1. a giving up of a right or claim; waiving. SYNONYM(S): relinquishment, renunciation.
2. a written statement of this: »

3. a condition in professional baseball and other sports in which the contract of a player to be released by a team is offered to the other clubs in the league at a fixed price. Only if the other teams decline the player may his contract be taken up by a team of another league.
